Our Story
BOARD-NV was founded in Reno Nevada in 2025 with the goal of making the highest quality butcher block and serving boards in the area. We are extremely proud of the reputation we are building and are so thankful that people are using and appreciating something we’ve made by hand in our little shop.
Ken Swanson is the owner of BOARD-NV. He first gained an interest in woodworking in his high school shop class in the late 1980’s. While in the corporate world, he enjoyed woodworking and furniture making in business as well as personal life. Now done with the corporate world he has taken BOARD-NV to full time. He’s made thousands of boards over the years and continues to do it with passion and desire.

With BOARD-NV, you get what you pay for as you can see in our website and list of steps and processes, along with the selection of materials used which makes our products exceptional.
IT ALL STARTS WITH THE SELECTION
We spend hours sourcing and hand selecting top-quality hardwoods. To make beautiful, lasting products, we only use the highest grade First and Seconds ("FAS") hardwoods. It is sourced from sawmills that rely on sustainable forestry practices from the Forest Stewardship Council ("FSC"). We only use the three best species for butcher blocks: Hard Maple, Cherry, and Black Walnut. For our serving boards we use the same species and additionally include White oak, Ash, Birch, and Mahogany as well as exotic species like Sapele, Purple Heart, and Wenge. The quality of the hardwoods we use is never sacrificed allowing us to give the customer the best boards, built to last a lifetime.

We take our builds very seriously so there is no conversation of cutting corners or taking shortcuts. Our boards are cut, sanded, and processed with passion and precision. Our machines and tools must be dialed in perfect working order to ensure that the products are built to last. Paying attention to important things like grain direction and dryness levels, along with many other checklist steps allows us to produce a strong, beautiful, long-lasting product unlike many others seen in the market.
We use high-end industrial machines from Festool, Laguna, SawStop, Jet, Bosch as well as many other top end brands to help us in making the best quality product for you. Being a small cutting board company also means that we can easily customize almost anything to the customer’s needs. A "yes we can" attitude.
The Little Things That
Make A Big Difference
We only use Titebond III glue, which is EPA-approved as food-safe and waterproof. We sand every piece on every surface prior to glue-up to ensure flat, consistent, and identical parts for the strongest and most accurate tolerances. We seal each board into pharmacy-grade, food-safe mineral oil to give it water resistance and hand buff each item with BOARD-NV’s custom board butter! It consists of our own mixture of oils and beeswax to give it ultimate protection and life. We never skip steps, from the start of the wood selection to the final packaging of your lifetime BOARD-NV board.
